Value

If you know the going price of pure gold, then you can determine the value of the entire golden object based strictly upon its gold-content (karat times total mass times the going price).

By either guessing or knowing the gold’s karat and volume as well as predicting the sort of impurity the gold has (whether it is silver or copper) we can extrapolate a mass for a single particle of gold. Once that is done we can then find an estimated value for the particle by multiplying the karat times the calculated mass times the going price.
